Tights, capes and spandex…a night at the Superheroes Ball!
EventsNCM’s second annual fundraiser gala, Superheroes Ball!, proved to be a true showstopper. The evening spectacle began with guests decked out in skin tight spandex, fake muscles, capes and masks, blue body paint and all things superhero.
During cocktails in the park, a lineup of heroes raced to the finish of our very own Superpowers Obstacle Course that tested their ability and agility to save the animal in time for Animal Art. Captain America and Captain Brit went head to head for a close finish as fellow fantastics cheered from the sidelines. After working up an appetite, the heroes took their seats at the outdoor supper club for some wining and dining.
What do heroes eat? Waters Fine Catering stepped up to the plate with a carefully crafted menu that featured a little bit of good versus evil on each plate. Guests experienced spicy and sweet, delicate and hearty and the struggle of good and evil throughout the courses. Always trying something new, NCM was one of the first galas in town to highlight Chef Andrew Spurgin’s team in an open kitchen that allowed the heroes a sneak peak into Water’s world of culinary artistry.
MC for the evening, Barbara Lee Edwards, kicked off the most important part of the evening, the live auction. A line up of unique, one of a kind experiences; the auction boasted a trip to NYC fashion week, private dinner prepared by Top Chef Ian Hall, Hometown (Sports) Heroes meet and greets and so much more. The auction was full of excitement and energy with heroes raising their paddles in support of NCM. The most successful auction yet, NCM raised funds that will directly support our expansive and innovative services for all children and families in San Diego County.

Check out the super video that got our heroes off their seats for the paddle raise. Our supporters proved their superhero status by standing up for NCM during the paddle raise with an electrifying energy and spirit that could be felt throughout the crowd. Co-chairs of the evening, Laurie (Think) Mitchell, Mitch (Play) Mitchell, and Michele (Create) Arthur, spearheaded the event with dedication to create an atmosphere full of fun that focused on the important mission of raising support for NCM and the programs we bring to the community.
What does a superhero do after that? D-A-N-C-E! Big Bad Voodoo Daddy took the stage for a whirlwind concert of their greatest jumping and jiving tunes. Our heroes leapt out of their seats as taxi dancers flooded the dance floor, decked out in their best swinging attire, and jammed out with our guests. There were capes flying and stilettos stepping to the sounds of the big band horns and swinging beats.
The dancing continued inside NCM at the afterhours nightclub and the ever so popular donut bar, by Dolce Donuts, served up piping hot goodness. It’s a fact; superheroes love hot mini donuts as much as we do! After hours of dining and dancing, the heroes went home to hang up their capes and tights until the next call to action. The NCM Superheroes Ball! was a true success, a mission accomplished. It was a fantasic night full of colorful spandex and support for NCM. Until next time…superheroes unite for NCM!
