Families with sick children get encouragement from doctors

In the hospital, parents should be encouraged to stay with their child, sit in on physician “rounds,” and accompany the youngster during medical procedures, the statement says. More than three quarters of pediatricians said they sometimes or often get asked by parents to use an “alternative” vaccination schedule that strays from national recommendations, according to a new survey of Washington State doctors, reports Reuters Health. Reuters news agency is reporting on a new study that pediatricians in the United States write more than 10 million unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions every year, contributing to potentially dangerous drug resistance. The researchers looked at almost 65,000 outpatient visits by children under 18 during 2006 to 2008 and reported their findings in the journal Pediatrics. [...]
