LOCAL PERFORMERS BAND TOGETHER TO SUPPORT ARTS EDUCATION AND THE NEW CHILDREN’S MUSEUM
August 21 gala will showcase Third Eye Blind, Get Back Loretta, Bombshell Boom Boom, Ross Karre, bkSOUL & Collective Purpose, and School of Rock

August 10, 2010 — San Diego — The New Children’s Museum has joined forces with San Diego-based performers to offer one-of-a-kind experiences at NCM’s 2010 gala, Party Animals!, on Saturday August 21. In addition to a headliner concert with Third Eye Blind and an intimate show with Get Back Loretta, Bombshell Boom Boom, Ross Karre, bkSOUL & Collective Purpose, and School of Rock have been added to the night’s all-star cast.

“The New Children’s Museum offers families something new and different each day. This year’s event will echo the same notion—with a rock star twist. Forget your tux or cocktail dress, this night sets you free to channel your favorite Rock Star or just join in with your favorite era groupie attire. The important part is that you are partying with a purpose to positively impact the lives of so many kids,” explains event Co-Chair and Museum Board Member Celeste Hilling.

“As arts education is increasingly being cut from the budget and curriculum in San Diego County schools, The New Children’s Museum has stepped up to the plate. This year’s gala will allow us to expand our arts education programs to 25,000 of San Diego’s neediest kids,” states Museum Executive Director Rachel Teagle. “It’s a phenomenal opportunity to change kids’ lives and have fun while doing it!”

Bombshell Boom Boom is an anti-venue marching sound collective, stemming out of the worldwide marching band movement. As a do-it-yourself band encouraging their audience to participate, the group thrives on using a critical mass of people to create a collective rhythm. Bombshell was developed by Sean Francis Conway and regularly performs at the Technomania Circus of Barrio Logan.

Musician and visual artist Ross Karre has performed throughout the world and has over a decade of experience as a music educator specializing in contemporary percussion and multimedia performance. One of Karre’s recent works, Hybrid Zoo, is currently on view at the Museum. His piece is part of the Artist Lens Program, an ongoing series that provides a platform for emerging artists to reinterpret artworks in NCM’s current exhibition, Animal Art. Karre will perform a percussion solo using numerous drums, marimba and vibraphone on August 21.

bkSOUL is a San Diego-based community of artists and performers grounded in hip-hop, taking inspiration from African, Asian, and modern dance. This unique group incorporates spoken word and music into each performance. For NCM’s 2010 gala, bkSOUL has partnered with spoken word group, Collective Purpose, to offer a new experience for guests.

School of Rock is the national leader in music education for kids from age 7 to 18. Students learn from professional musicians in an interactive environment combining weekly private lessons and structured group rehearsals with the ultimate goal of performing live in front of real crowds. The School of Rock will be making the call to dinner the night of the event and performing for a select group of guests.
