Mission The New Children's Museum is dedicated to providing inventive and engaging art experiences that are meaningful to children and families. We stimulate imagination, inquisitiveness and innovative thinking by exhibiting participatory works of art by contemporary artists and providing a venue for art making and play. History The New Children’s Museum opened its doors on May 4, 2008. The original Children’s Museum opened its first facility in 1983 in La Jolla, and relocated to a downtown warehouse at 200 West Island Avenue in 1993. Visitors The Museum has served over 560,000 visitors in its first three and half years of operation. Building Designed by award-winning architect Rob Wellington Quigley, The New Children’s Museum is one of the first green museums in California and signals the Museum’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The 50,000-square-foot building is a dramatic three-level structure. Location 200 West Island Avenue in the Marina District of San Diego across from the San Diego Convention Center.
