Humans primarily use our sense of sight. Many other animals, such as bats and dolphins, prefer to use their ears rather than their eyes. What would it be like to hear the Museum from a bat’s perspective? Make a Mammal Amp and listen carefully!

Inspired by the work of artist of the month Mungo Thompson, make an animal inspired kazoo and let it sing! Stick around for wild performances following every workshop.
Visiting studio artist David Krimmel is a community artist, museum exhibition designer and aspiring mid-city farmer in San Diego.
Make your mark at The New Children’s Museum on the Black Box in the Paint Studio! Leave a message for other visitors or create a colorful mural with colored chalk. Studio facilitators hold impromptu mini workshops throughout the day, based on a theme.

Each child is provided with a small ball of clay, to be transformed into whatever their interest and imagination inspires them to create. Use rollers, cardboard, and more to form a fantastic sculpture!
The popular “obsolete vehicle”, also known as the Painted Bug, has been replaced in the Woods Family Studio. The new canvas? A whale, designed by artist and Curator of Studio Art Alberto Caro, is made of metal mesh. The whale is a girl, and she's been recently named Penelope by Carly, age 4, from San Ysidro.
