. The New Children’s Museum has extended hours on Thursdays until 6pm.
January 15–September 6
During a semester-long residency, artist and educator Joshua Krause and his senior art and design class will confront issues of waste specific to each student’s neighborhood, while also revealing trash problems common to all of San Diego. Krause’s class, in partnership with teen visitors, will compose portraits of their neighborhood by finding inspiration in its diverse and disordered signage and repurposing its cardboard and junk mail. The resulting installation will transform these banal materials into an urban-influenced community garden and a meeting place for San Diego youth.
Visitors age 11 and up can contribute to the project starting in January, and witness the potential for repurposing trash into thought-provoking art.
Using a cool assortment of materials, teens can create their own zine inspired by Joshua Krause's "Portraits of your Neighborhood."
